Books and Christmas, what’s not to love?

I was tagged by the lovely Tasha over at The Bookie Monsters to do the Dashing Through the Snow book tag. I’ve been feeling very much in the festive spirit lately and as you well know, I’m always more than happy to talk about books, so let’s just jump right into the questions.

Name a book you would like to see under your Christmas tree

Oh, so many. A little birdy told me I may be getting the illustrated Harry Potter which would be fantastic. I’ve also put in a good word for Vixen by Rosie Garland, which has one of the prettiest covers I think I’ve ever seen, and The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenberg, which is a gorgeous graphic novel.

Name a book you’ll be reading during the Christmas Season

I’m planning to try and read the 3 books in the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman for the first time. I’ve just finished book one and really enjoyed it so I hope to get to the others before the end of the year.

Name your favourite Christmas movie

This is tough… The one that makes me feel really nostalgic is The Santa Clause (the one with Tim Allen). My family used to watch it together every year so it gives me the warm fuzzies.

Do you like snow?

Living in Scotland, it would be a problem if I didn’t ;)

Name a character you would like to spend your Christmas day with

The Grinch… No, I jest. I’d be lying if I didn’t say Hermione Granger. Imagine chilling in Hogwarts after a delicious Christmas feast, reading your newly gifted books in the Gryffindor common room by a roaring fire.

To give or to receive?

Of course I like getting presents (who doesn’t?!) but I do love giving presents to people as well. There’s something really exciting about choosing something personal that you think they’ll enjoy, and I have a pretty good knack for finding a book of some kind for people, even if they aren’t normally readers.

What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

Well I already alluded to Hogwarts and that would be my first answer but in the spirit of not just picking good ol’ HP for everything, let’s say Wonderland. Imagine how bonkers that place must get at this time of year. Mind you, with The Grinch still in mind, Whoville is pretty much every child’s Christmas dream.

Fondest Christmas memory?

Rather than one specific memory, I just remember having lots of lovely family Christmases. There is a story that comes to mind that was a horrible experience at the time but I find really funny now: One Christmas Eve our house was very badly flooded and the entire ground floor was completely destroyed. Firefighters were just leaving after pumping out all the water and one of them turned to see my two brothers and I sitting on the stairs looking very sorry for ourselves and simply said, “Don’t worry kids. Santa has a boat.”

Can you say Christmas tree ten times FAST in a row (pronouncing it correctly!)?
