I’m curious about fanfic...

willietheplaidjacket:

There are several shows/films/books etc that I am a fan of, but Sherlock is the only one that I want to read fanfic for.

I know there are plenty of people who read/write fanfic from several fandoms though. So what is it about a thing you enjoy - be it a TV show or a book or whatever - that makes you want to seek out/create fanfic for it?

Yeah, it’s interesting, isn’t it? With Sherlock, I would say that the sheer scarcity is what made me seek out the fandom and specifically want to create more of that universe. I strongly suspect that’s also why AU settings don’t interest me particularly - it’s nothing against them specifically, but it’s THIS canon that I’m hungry for. I’m also HUGELY into A Song of Ice & Fire, but I participate in that fandom in a COMPLETELY different way, on a different form of social media, as a totally different sort of contributor. I would never read or write fic for it, and oddly, I would never participate in Sherlock the way I do with ASOIAF. It’s very curious, isn’t it? Curious to know what other people think.
