Time to Party- How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying!
Time to party! I wrote my first book and it was released a few months ago. I enjoyed the entire writing, editing and design process, thanks to the professionals at iUniverse publishing. Then the team told me to market and promote my book. Wait...what!?
I decided to have a Book Launch Party. Shades of Bella Fleace Gave a Party- what if no one came? (Here is a summary of this short story by Evelyn Waugh. If you have ever stressed over planning an event, you may not want to read this.)
I chose to have a complimentary wine tasting, a champagne punch, hearty appetizers- and cupcakes!- at my club and I picked a lucky date- November 13. I developed and followed a comprehensive promotional plan. I bombarded, I mean targeted, people using my social media platforms and my email newsletter, and I distributed over 500 postcards to every home in my neighborhood. (Word to the wise, Bella Fleace- you skipped these steps.) And I made my sister come and bring her friends. The venue also promoted my event through their newsletters and social media.
The night of the event, I wore a fabulous dress, mingled with my guests and signed books. I made new friends and we started to develop an idea to create a writer's group at the club. I connected with a media guy and I squealed and jumped when blast from the past buddies strolled in.
As the party ended, one of the servers said to me, "You had a great turn out and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I hope you had fun celebrating YOU."
I assured him that I did have fun, but the point of the evening was not to celebrate me. My Book Launch Party gave me the privilege of introducing Charli to my friends and interested local people and allowed me the joy of bonding with folk who love books, writing and dreams.
