Anonymous not silent on their attack of ISIS

Hackers’ collective Anonymous has begun initiating its campaign to fight ISIS. One of their first public moves was releasing a video warning ISIS that they’re coming, now the hackers have recently disabled 20,000 Twitter accounts associated with the Islamic State. Anonymous warns “This is only the beginning, ISIS. We will hunt you, take down your sites, accounts, emails and expose you.”ome experts are criticizing Anonymous  for overhyping, and just looking for headlines. Anonymous expert Gabrielle Coleman claims that the group was much more effective in dealing with the “Charlie Hebdo” killings earlier this year. Another criticism? Many of the Twitter accounts that were disabled weren’t affiliated with ISIS at all.  ISIS has been very successful in spreading their message and recruiting via different social media channels, however  that’s not to say Anonymous’ #OpParis won’t be able to gain some traction. Happy Holidays Hackers

Connected devices are all the rage this holiday season, from wearable fitness bands, smart watches, connected appliances, & more. According to security experts, these connected devices are a dream come true for hackers since they act as “pivot points” into your network. Drones for instance, give hackers access to your smartphone and cloud data. Hackers then can install malware and decode your passwords, according to Bruce Snell cybersecurity & privacy director of Intel Security.

In one experiment, experts used a Nest home thermostat to track homeowners browsing searches and private information. The reports noted Nest is relatively secure, but manufacturers of all IoT devices should make security a top priority. Connected devices should begin to limit the amount of consumer data they collect and store. Quick reminder that not all information should be shared and we can tell you why. (Source MSN)

Back to Basics

Grandma’s extra happy this year. In a reverse trend, many big retailers are keeping their doors closed on this year’s turkey day. Marshalls, Costco, Nordstrom, & more are opting for more family time in hopes to spark some quality “goodwill” with shoppers. The retailers are making this move after a 4% decrease in shopping last year compared to years past. That means no excuses when grandma asks to play scrabble. They are also taking a page from REI – remember REI is closing their stores on Black Friday in hopes that people will enjoy the outdoors.  (Source WRAl)
