More people need to read what you are writing. There are too many mainstream books out there - with the same kind of main character, the same kind of supporting characters, the same kind of plot.... the world needs books like yours. However, often what the world NEEDS is often and sadly not what the world WANTS. Keep on fighting. I hope that there'll be a breakthrough one day soon!

Thanks so much, Kim, for your kind words and ongoing support. Sadly, I think so many of the injustices I write about continue because people choose not to be reminded of them. I will continue the fight to shift human consciousness away from "me' to "we."
Yes, that is unfortunately true (about people not wanting to see the truth, and not wanting to be reminded). I fear that I might have the same problem with the novel I am writing. Basically, it is a fantasy story, however, I also include some topics people do not like. While they are "just" subplots, I think that it might keep people from reading the whole story. My aim is to put the problematic topics into a parcel that people enjoy reading - yet makes them think. But does the majority of people want to think critically and even change the way they behave? In real life, in real conversations, with people I know personally, I made the experience that most people are close-minded and also close off their spirit/soul to the things that would make a huge, positive difference in their lives as well as in the life of our planet. There are more and more people who wake up from their stupor. It is very slow going though - better than nothing though.

Basically, it is ..." My feeling, too, Kim is that publishers shy away from non-standard plots and non-Caucasian characters because they fear their bottom line will be hurt. I see all kinds of calls for more diversity in teen books on Tumblr, Facebook, etc with groups like We Need Diverse Books and Young Adult Library Association, but when I offer them my books free for consideration, I never get a response. It's possible these groups just talk the talk and don't actually want to consider books with diverse characters or they have a different opinion of diversity than I do. I hope you are more successful at breaking down stereotype barriers than I have been and your book will be successful.
