This week’s Badass Lady, comedian Kate Spencer, shares her picks for badass ladies everyone should know.

Akilah Hughes - Smart and hilarious writer and YouTuber who is always
making me think.

Gaby Dunn - I love her videos, but like her tell-it-like-it-is tweets
even more.

Roxane Gay (@roxanegay) - A hero of mine. Brilliant, kind, and actually made me
come around to Channing Tatum.

Rachel Bloom - She’s making her own TV show for the CW and it’s going
to #slay.

Gilli Nissim - A UCB performer in LA who writes and hosts one of the
weirdest and best shows I’ve seen in a long time called We’re Gross.

Christine Friar - Her writing is funny and poignant, and her Instagram
is a fave.

Heidi Rose Robbins - Heidi is a poet and astrologer and an all-around
queen.

Mo Welch - Her Barely Blair comic on Instagram is perfection, and
she’s a boss bitch on the basketball court. (Her team The Beatdown is packed
with badasses, and they beat my team every time.)

Mary Holland - Mary is just a delightful, magical person to watch
perform. She’s on the new show Blunt Talk, and she’s in my book club, and I
just adore her.

Brittani Nichols - I loved her pilot, Words With Girls, and her recent
mission of saying “no.” She’s also another force of basketball power.

Maria Guido - A great editor and writer (and friend). She is fearless,
and I admire that a ton.

Kate Spencer spent seven years as a Senior Editor/Producer/On-Air Host at VH1, where she created original pop culture content for TV and the web, interviewing celebrities like George Clooney, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Kristen Stewart, and Fleetwood Mac along the way. Her writing has appeared on Buzzfeed, Salon, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, Vulture, Modern Loss, Scary Mommy, The Mid, College Humor and Metro Newspaper, and in books like Gawker’s Guide to Conquering All Media and My Parents Were Awesome. She most recently served as the Editor-in-Chief of the popular parenting site Mommyish.com, where she covered everything from mother loss to breastfeeding activists on YouTube.

An established performer and teacher at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and Los Angeles, Kate co-hosts the always sold-out pop culture roundtable Shut Up! I Hate You! with her TV writer husband Anthony King. In addition to being a talking head on TV shows like VH1’s 40 Greatest Celebrity Scandals, she’s made appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Comedy Bang Bang.
