“Someone more compassionate and braver than me,” she said between deep exhales.
Just then, a tree branch hit her right in the chest, knocking the wind out of her. She laid flat on her back, the salt of her willing tears stinging her eyes, pricking them like the rough branches that grazed her skin. Her lungs felt empty. She took handuls of leaves and ash into her fists, as she pushed herself upright.
She had to stop running.

I have to say one of the most enjoyable parts of the book publishing process for me so far have been hearing what scenes stick out the most to friends, family, readers, critics. We all take away something different, and I think that’s a beautiful thing. Especially from this particular girl who happens to be one of my best and dearest friends and is kickass writer too!
