They never wanted us there in the first place. What? Y'all want to pray and forgive these heartless people?
The more I study history, the more today looks the same. Coding laws, racism without explicit terms being used (s/o @ Ronald Reagan), denying education, harassing those who break through the barriers so they might step down, using laws and incarceration as a way to enact a new slavery (even explicitly called slavery by some states), like geez. It’s disheartening how we’ve exchanged poster boards for yikyak and twitter and how some things haven’t changed at all but are just given new names, like “heritage” or “patriotism.”
It’s like Ta-Nehisi Coates said in his latest book, “Enslavement was not destined to end.” New systems, new Jim Crow laws, new coding will always be enacted and built into our government and society unless something big happens.
And honestly it better happen soon because the state of the country is one of disgust.
“Enslavement was not destined to end.”
That is a fucking powerful statement.
