Here's recent progress on my young adult haunted house story about a long-lost adventure pulp comic manuscript that's guarded by a good ghost and a bad ghost; now with Bonus! gentrifying drama, golden-age mystery, Hollywood intrigue, fallout from The Storm, and an agent who's just trying to do the right thing, goddammit:
Project: The Agony HouseDeadline: November 16, 2015
New words written: 3285
Present total word count: 69,148 [Draft Zero, y'all]
Things Accomplished in Fiction: Wind-down/wrap-up scene, and behold, we have a DRAFT ZERO. [:: throws confetti ::]
Things Accomplished in Real Life: Neighborhood jaunt with the dog; lunch with husband; not much else.
Book Other: Now I get to spend this weekend reading through/cleaning up so that I can hand it in on Monday as a decent Draft 0.5 (if not Draft One). This one had to come together quickly, but it's only intended to be a starter draft; the final one isn't due until fall of next year. But yes, I have to give this complete - if preliminary - version of the tale to my editor on Monday.
Next Other: Next, I have to write a short story for an anthology. It's due December 1. After that, I get started (or pick up where I left off) on
Brimstone, a draft of which is due March 1.
Critter Other: The beautiful kitten is growing into a beautiful cat. But such is the way of things.
Number of fiction words so far this year: 125,136
