Kembara #dekatje: Kampung Style Lunch at Kalumpang Resort and Training Centre

It was a busy and exhausting morning after our coverage for Kalumpang Rainforest Jungle Run. Everyone was famished and upon arrival and checking in to Kalumpang Resort and Training Centre, our host graciously ushered for lunch.

Lunch was traditional Malay style where all the dishes were spread out on the floor and we eat our meal communal style with our hands.

The lunch spread was truly amazing and it’s nothing like what you can get in resraurants.

Assorted freshly plucked ulam-ulaman, salted eggs, salted fish, fried tofu and fried tempeh served in a huge tray. These side dishes are paired with steamed white rice and is absolutely delicious.

A must in every traditional Malay dish, sambal belacan.

Grilled fish wrapped with banana leaf and stuffed with sambal belacan. I usually detest fish, but this dish is to die for and please don’t ask how many helping I had. The amount was not very ladylike.
