Huh, That's Interesting...
I've become a regular viewer of the NBC comedy Community. The storylines are nothing earth-shattering (though their Halloween episode, where everyone gets turned into a zombie thanks to contaminated food, was one of the funniest things I've seen all year), but the characters are fantastic. My one qualm has to do with the character of Troy. In the show, he's supposed to be a Jehovah's Witness. Apparently, though, the writers did not do their research. Having been raised a JW, I know whereof I speak. First off, JWs are encouraged NOT to go to college. At least, the ones I know. Secondly, dressing up for Halloween is a big no no. I have a feeling whoever writes for that character just said, "Hey! I know. I'll make him a Jehovah! That's different." They then proceeded to do absolutely NO research for the character.
It's a sad day when an actor the caliber of Kevin Pollack is stuck hosting a game show.
Here's a perfect example of why I love listening to The Loft on XM radio: The other night they played a Jon Brion song. Jon Brion is a singer songwriter who also wrote the score for Magnolia. Following that song, they played an Aimee Mann song. She did all the songs for Magnolia, though the song they played was not one of them. I love that they did this! They did a whole connectivity thing without saying a word, and they do that sort of thing all the time. This is a station for true music lovers.
I was successful in avoiding all pre-Oscar award shows and Oscar sites, thinking I would be surprised when the nominees were announced. I was wrong.
Austin City Limits is the most consistently entertaining show on television. In the past few weeks they've had Bob Schneider, The National, Lyle Lovett, Band of Horses, Andrew Bird, and Conor Oberst, to name a few. One of these days I'd love to head to the actual festival.
Every 20 years a new version of A Star Is Born has been released: 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, 1954 with Judy Garland and Jame Mason, 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, and, while it skipped the 90s, there are plans for a new version with (gulp) Clint Eastwood and Beyonce. Are we ready for that?
OH.MY.GOD. Aimee Mann guests on Portlandia this Friday. Woot!!
That is all. Have a pleasant week.
