The Gatekeepers Post: Meh!
Here's an interesting entry from the new blog I talked about yesterday, Thegatekeeperspost.com. You Only Get One Shot when submitting a manuscript. It's not bad at all. It's just so last Friday.
And I want to keep this post positive, because there's nothing wrong with Thegatekeeperspost. But for those of us who have been reading agent blogs like Janet Reid's and Nathan Bransford's for years now, none of this is new information. Actually, it's basic info and absolutely nothing so far is new and exciting about Thegatekeeperspost for those of us who have been reading literary agent blogs. But I do know there are a lot of newer authors out there who haven't been reading agent blogs, so it's still good, valid information.
And the thing I'm wondering about is where the hell have all these so-called gatekeepers been while the rest of us in publishing have been reading all this information on blogs like Janet Reid's, Nathan Bransford's, and the list of other lit agents I have listed on my own blog list below? Many of us were reading Miss Snark when a lot of these "gatekeepers" didn't have a clue gun (it's an inside joke for those who read Miss Snark), and the information we've been receiving from agent bloggers like Kristen Nelson over at Pub Rants was better than going for a masters degree in publishing. I still refer to many older agent blog posts when I have a question about something.
Frankly, I was expecting something new from these gatekeepers. Something exciting I haven't seen before. But all I've seen so far is a repetition of what's already been done, and done very well I might add on simple google blogs, without all the grandiosity. But more than that, I'm not sure I'm all that fond of the name, The Gatekeeper. With all the new authors now self-publishing so many great books, I can't help wondering whether or not the Gatekeeper name itself will eventually become obsolete.
In any event, if you haven't been a follower of literary agent blogs like Miss Snark and Pub Rants, you'll find the gatekeepers web site informative on a basic level. And, it's still new (hint to the gatekeepers, with a big smile), so maybe they are just getting ready to blast us with all the information we're longing for with regards to e-books, e-publishing, and how something new seems to be happening in publishing every single day.
