Spontaneous Flight
Sometimes the best things in life happen because we learn to let go – to let go of fear, of planning, and of worry. In these fantastic moments, we close our eyes, take a leap of faith, and discover that we can fly. But there are also times when the reward comes, not from spontaneous flight, but from being wise enough to remain firmly grounded. Sometimes, the key is to hold on – to hold on to our dreams, to our resolve, and to our strength. The secret of thriving people is that they always know which approach to take; they aren’t afraid of risk but they also recognize the wisdom in prudence. Fortunately, with a little bit of spiritual awareness, we all can share this knowledge.
We are like oceans, and our waters are always being pulled in different directions by both internal and external forces. The secret is in allowing ourselves to be pulled by the right forces. The mind rises and falls, crashing in waves upon the shores of our consciousness. But the spirit, with its low and steady pressure, is where the true wisdom resides. We must allow ourselves to be pulled by the undercurrent rather than the surface wave – if we want to make the most of life we have to swim deep.
When the spirit pushes us to jump, we aren’t moved by fear or impetuosity; those are the motivations of the mind. Instead, we are beckoned almost tauntingly by the unknown, enticed by the whispers of unexplored mysteries. Only when we are moved by curiosity and intrigue, rather than anxiety or temerity, do we discover that our wings have grown strong and we can soar.
When our choice to remain grounded is inspired by the spirit, it has nothing to do with the fear of falling or the fear of the unknown. It’s about the beauty of where we are and the mysteries that we still want to spend more time exploring. Instead of being pulled and beckoned by far off curiosities, we are infatuated with those right in front of us. Moved by the spirit, the decision to remain rooted in one place allows us to grow to new heights and reach deeper understandings.
There are some moments when the choice to throw caution to the wind will find us soaring higher than the storms we feared; and there are others where it will leave us lying broken on the rocks below. There are some moments when the resolve to remain rooted makes us stronger, wiser, and kinder; and then there are some when it causes us to miss out on the chance at great inspiration and excitement.
Neither approach will always work, which is why it’s so important to allow the spirit’s voice to guide us. The spirit lives in a place of perfect balance and, when we allow it to guide us, we begin to express that perfect balance in our life. We know when to jump and we know when to stand still; we get the best of spontaneous flight and of grounded growth. Next time that you find yourself peering over the edge, take a moment and listen. Listen for the undercurrent and tune out the crashing waves. Make your choice based on the love of your spirit – excitement, intrigue, curiosity, and inspiration – and whichever way you go happiness and personal growth is sure to go with you.
