It started by chance and innovation when Sawadogo used manure on his field in the dry season, and seeds sprouted trees among his crops. The trees shielded the seeds and nourished the land. Leaves acted as mulch and provided fodder for animals. Water tables are recharging. The trees also provide wood for fire and furniture, another source of income and of natural medicines.
