“Technicalities” (Book Nine)

Below is an excerpt from Book Nine of the OUTLANDER novels, which I am currently writing. Note that there are SPOILERS…

“What do you mean, I can’t? Whose business is it whether I renounce my title or not?”

Uncle Hal looked at William with an affectionate impatience.

“I’m not speaking rhetorically, blockhead. I mean it literally. You can’t renounce a peerage. There’s no means set down in law or custom for doing it, ergo, it can’t be done.”

“But you—” William stopped, baffled.

“No, I didn’t,”...

Yeah, as of the 1540s or so.

Patti Fischetti I cannot figure out why I didn't read it when it first came out. I guess I saw how thick it was and stopped myself from purchasing it.

I bought the Outlander paperback 20-some years ago and left it on the bookshelf for about 4, 5 months before picking it up! My dad read it and when I asked him how it was, he replied "Eh, it's alright"! Alright?!!

mary cosmah johnson I am really glad that more is coming,,but please don't hurry too much,,make it just as realistic,,love the way you write and I have notice for some writers,,their book will be thrilling,,I am into it big time,,then they put a ending that either don't fit or leaves you guessing.
