Finding Balance in Your Home…and Life
The other day I was talking with a girlfriend about my ponderings as I'm balancing out my life { again }. I have four important things going on in my life right now: homeschool, and three businesses. I was focused on three things so it looked like a triangle with a little bubble off to the side of the fourth. I needed to make it a square giving each thing equal amounts of attention and energy. I had been pondering that for some time and trying a few things to balance my life.
As I constantly struggled to balance my life I've learned that it is a regular thing to keep your life in balance. It isn't something I can do one day and it will be good for twenty years. That is the nature of life, it is ever changing. New situations or interests come your way, new people come into your life, and the list goes on. Life is ever changing. So, how do we know where to begin to find balance in our lives? I found that we need to organize our lives according to these steps:
1. What is going to get me into heaven? Take care of you spiritually first. That includes study of the scriptures, prayers, meditation and other ways to connect you spiritually to your Heavenly Father.
2. An empty picture can pour no water. Take time to fill your well within. That can be different for each person, but some ideas are: exercise, quiet reading time, or listening to your favorite music. Take at least 20 minutes a day to rejuvenate yourself so that you can give to your loved ones, job, or home fully.
3. What is most important after that? Family, job, home, etc. You decide and then organize your life accordingly. Many times this means cutting out the extras to get that balance you need.
This month's Homemaking Cottage Deluxe theme is about balancing your life. Take time to discover new things and ideas that can assist you in making your life the joyful life you wish to live.
Is Meditation the Missing Ingredient in Your Life As a Mother?
By Shiloah Baker
Mothers are the heart of the home and everyone relies on the heart to keep pumping and to stay healthy. This cannot be done well and without much strain if we are not taking care of ourselves. When you find yourself snapping at your husband or being impatient with your child, take it as a sign that you are not feeling whole enough to give of yourself.

Direction and Balance
By Raejean Roberts
I admit it, I'm a wanna be. There are so many things I want to learn and skills I want to develop. I wrote down a list of the things I want to do in 2011, there were 26 of them. This will be my first semester of not taking a class in quite a while so I should have time to do other things this year, but not 26 things more!
Balance is something I've been striving for all of my adult life. Overall, I'm closer to having a balanced life. …

A Firmness of Purpose for the New Year
By Aine Schulmire
The dictionary defines a resolution as "a firmness of purpose". Basically, all there is to a New New year, new Year's resolution is, simply put, a goal.
"Goal setting", you say! I have heard some people groan that they didn't believe in New Years resolutions because all they are to them is guilt trips waiting to happen. Not so my friend! Goals are simply a map to keep you in the direction of what it is you want to accomplish in this life…

50 Ways to Live a Better Year
By Kari Robinette
1. Take naps. Researchers at Harvard found an hour nap was as beneficial as a full night's sleep.
2. Don't take things personally.
3. Breathe. Holding your breath increases muscle tension.
4. When it's your turn to listen, don't think. Thinking interferes with hearing.
5. Eat only when you're hungry. If you're not hungry, but you're eating anyway, it's not food you need….

It's a new year and we're all looking at ways to make 2011 our best, healthiest, happiest year yet. One thing that we often overlook is the way stress prevents us from achieving success. Sure, it's great to buy new workout clothes and vow to get to the gym five days a week in order to drop those holiday pounds, or make plans to save enough for a nice family vacation this summer, but we often find ourselves failing because we let stress derail our plans….

Does your family get enough fruits and vegetables in their diet? Be honest. It's likely that, like most Americans, their diet does not include the 5 to 9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables. In fact, most Americans barely get 4 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Eating lots of fresh produce can lower your risk for cancer, heart disease, stroke, obesity…

I've noticed a disturbing trend the last couple years; my weight creeps up 10 – 15 pounds between January and June before it levels off. In the fall I've been able to shave a few pounds off before the cycle repeats itself. I'm determined to break that cycle this year by moving more and eating less, especially less sweets. Since I exercise consistently, I'm increasing the intensity of my workouts; but it leads me to believe that my eating habits are the real source of my weight struggles.

Give Yourself a Boost
By Donna Bush
A new year is 365 days of opportunity, waiting for you to reach out and grab it. Want to make the most of it? Feel your best and be inspired to accomplish something great by giving yourself a daily boost.
Use a positive affirmation. Every day, look in the mirror and say something positive. Yes it might seem a little "Stuart Smalley," Al Franken's sweater-wearing, "you're good enough" character from Saturday Night Live. But it's a great way to start the day.

Arizona Traditions
By Raejean Roberts
Our family has been enjoying Arizona for over 6 years. As I look back at the traditions we've created in that time, I see they all depend on the weather. While many places look forward to summer to thaw out or get a break from the rain, in Arizona the summer is the time to find indoor activities! My favorite rainy season is Monsoon Season with its amazing lightning show. We enjoy those July afternoons when the wall of dark clouds roll in, forcing us inside before the dust starts blowing….
