I was just thinking about Howard Charles this morning, when I was looking at my book shelves and I saw Barbara Hambly’s Benjamin January mysteries. Benjamin January is a mixed race former slave who was able to go to Paris and train as a surgeon. He moves back to New Orleans (I forget why) and tries to make a life for himself there. There are lots of clever and interesting mysteries, a gentle love story between him and Rose Vitrac (who is awesome) and his closest friend is the lovely, gently Hannibal, a Irish violin player (Hey! Tom Burke?) who is just amazing and complicated and awesome.
I love this series, and just think that Howard would be wonderful in it. Any thoughts?
