A letter to My State Representative In Regards to Legailzing Marijuana In IL

Dear Sir,
I am writing to you today to share my experience in regards to medical marijuana. I have recently been diagnosed with one of the qualifying diseases that is listed to be able to obtain the medical card. However, I am not a person who smokes marijuana ( I have tried it over 20 years ago, I didn't find any interest in it at the time). Now that I am in constant chronic pain, I have done my research into this matter. I will be very honest, I recently tried it to see if this would really work for my condition. In all honesty it did work. I was pain free for 48 hours, not only that but I did not need to take my anxiety medication either. I suffer from serve anxiety and I am a "functional" agoraphobic (simply put, I can not leave my property due to extreme stress and fear, however while on my medicine for anxiety I am capable to make it to work and to the grocery store and my doctors office, but the medicine does not always work.) I have also researched how well the state of Colorado has been doing in the taxation of legalizing marijuana. I would like to see IL go the same route, not because I would like to become someone who is smoking pot daily, but because I fully believe that our state could benefit from legalizing it. If you look at the stats for Colorado you can not deny that they now have a surplus of money in taxes. IL needs help financially, and this is one way to help get our state back on track and out of debt. I ask that you bring this to floor and vote for legalizing recreational use. Is marijuana different than alcohol? Yes it is. Alcohol, brings out some anger and abusive nature in some people, but it is still legal. Marijuana has the opposite effect; people that use it are mellow and much more relaxed and happy. Can you honestly tell me that the small few who are lucky enough to get the medical card will make an impact on our economy? I don't think it will. We can't afford to pay Lotto winners, we can't afford to keep our government running, but if you took the steps to legalizing this product, we can become one of the greatest states there is in our country. It would create more jobs, more farming, more revenue for us all. Most importantly it will help people like me who can not afford the fees, to get the treatment that works. I ask you to please take all of this in consideration, and push for this change. Think of the crime rate, it would drop. Illegal sellers would be put out of business, we would no longer be arresting people for this one drug, and the overcrowding of our prisons, would drop, effectively cutting another cost to state. All it takes is one bill to pass it, millions of us here in IL want to this pass. I love my state and I would like to see it be a great state to live in, instead deciding to move away due to the financial crisis that we are in. ( I'd like to also note that there are currently only 4 physicians who are on board on signing off on the medical marijuana  cards, all of which are far away from my local area, this is not enough doctors to cover the thousands of us who truly need this help).
