Am working on preparing new book for publication. It's titled
BANKRUPTING THE THIRD WORLD: How the Global Elite Drown Poor Nations in a Sea of Debt.
This is easily the most tragic subject I've ever had to research. Sickening stuff, especially because all the misery (e.g. 21,000 people die daily of starvation), is 1000% A-V-O-I-D-A-B-L-E. It's not about "limited resources" or "scarcity" or "climate change" or "terrorism" any of these feeble excuses. Extreme poverty is about two things: GREED and THE SOCIOPATHS IN POWER. And these greedy sociopathic elitists in the First World are not only "bankrupting" or "looting" the Third World right now, they always have.
I'm not oversimplifying the situation. There is more than enough wealth in the world for every man, woman and child to not only survive, but for them to prosper. Period. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying to you, or else they are ill-informed.
Bono summarised it best, I think:
“It’s an amazing thing to think that ours is the first generation in history that really can end extreme poverty, the kind that means a child dies for lack of food in its belly. That should be seen as the most incredible, historic opportunity but instead it’s become a millstone around our necks. We let our own pathetic excuses about how it’s difficult justify our own inaction. Be honest. We have the science, the technology, and the wealth. What we don’t have is the will, and that’s not a reason that history will accept.” -Bono
I totally agree with that statement. We (as a civilization) just do not have the will. But that doesn't mean it's too big a problem to rectify - it means the planet's global elite like things the way they are and resist all forms of change that serve the masses until such changes are literally forced upon them.
As always, it's going to be up to us, the common people, to fix this issue. So let's all get on the right side of history. And make poverty history. It should've been done yesterday. But hopefully it'll be done tomorrow.
