GodDAMN this country needs the referendum

Instead eking our way through the courts on major national issues and feeding the beast that the legal industry has become, or arguing about them on the so-called news channels, or making replicant bumpersticker posts on social media of our cookie-cutter ideologies, let’s shut the fuck up and VOTE on it.

Let’s vote on guns (I believe we’d keep them). Let’s vote on abortion (I believe we’d keep it). Let’s vote on homosexual marriage (I believe we’d keep that, too).

Not state by state, but nationwide votes.

I’m getting so sick of social media these days. It’s nothing but a bunch little armchair hashtag ideologues smoking the pole of their particular orthodoxy and calling everybody who doesn’t believe what they’ve been told to believe stupid.

I know this is a fantasy and it would never happen. There’s 20 million lawyers who’d fight it every step of the way, for one thing. You think the NRA is tenacious? Try giving a lawyer a pay cut.

Obama is right: VOTE about this gun shit. If you think gun control will work, vote for gun control people. If you think gun control is bullshit, vote that way.

My question on the whole matter is why are these types of shootings increasing (and they most decidedly are)? I mean, if guns are ultimately the problem, why haven’t there always been an equal number of these shootings? Guns have been around for over half a millennium, automatic guns for over a century, yet these types of random massacres are fairly recent. They have occurred VERY sporadically throughout history, but since 1966 they’ve pretty much skyrocketed. What has happened to our society in the last 50 or 60 years?
