Here’s the thing: the vast majority of my Sherlock stuff has been post-series 3 stuff, which almost by definition makes it a “fix-it”, at least if you’re a Johnlock shipper. The things from series 3 that needing fixing, in my opinion, may be fixed in future series of the canon, but - seeing as we have some time on our hands and all - fanfic authors choose to fill in the gaps. I’ve written in two major fandoms now and I’ve never been a one-hit wonder. I’ve never written my One Theory Of How Shit Will Go Down. I’m not trying to predict what the showrunners will do, themselves. I’m merely exploring different routes to get to the same end goal. For me, the things I can’t live with from series 3 and therefore feel a compulsive need to fix in fanfic form are:

the fact that Mary is alive, not in prison, still married to John, and presumably carrying a baby which is presumably his
the fact that John and Sherlock aren’t yet together romantically

Moriarty still being alive, if indeed he is, could also be an issue - not least because three major characters all faking their deaths in nine episodes of one series is overkill, if you ask me

So yeah: certain major elements will basically always happen in a story which I consider a “fix-it”. Mary will be dealt with. The baby will be dealt with. And I sure as hell will get Sherlock and John together. Certain elements of their personalities will be the same, I hope, because they’re the same characters and all that. Logic? Yeah.

I’ve now written from nine different perspectives over 50 Johnlock stories and 3 Freebatch stories. In my genuine attempt to be even-handed in my treatment of Mary, I’ve even written from her perspective. Three times. I’ve also written the following: Sherlock (1st person and 3rd), John, Mycroft, Lestrade, Janine, Sally Donovan, Mrs Hudson, and Martin Freeman. I’ve written angst thick enough to make baby Jesus cry. I’ve written crack. I’ve written epic spy drama. I’ve written straight-up, old-fashioned romance. I’ve written top, bottom, and switch. I’ve written case fic and domestic fluff (if we must, lol), retirement/death fic, serious abuse, trauma, injury/illness, hurt/comfort, and RPF. I don’t do AUs and am not about to start. I don’t write anything which is inconsistent with current canonical reality, including the universe (aka reality) in which it’s set, so you won’t get creatures or magic or animals or time travel from me. For the most part I write what’s termed “extension” fic, meaning it’s set in the future of current canon (the only exceptions being stories set entirely within HLV, which I have done a few times now). But within this universe, with these pre-set factors of which elements will be “fixed”, per my estimation, I’ve written as many permutations of ways to get there as I can think of, and hopefully I’m not out of ideas just yet.

I think it’s completely normal if someone’s writings aren’t your cup of tea. God knows I’m picky enough about what I read! I get that. But bashing someone for exploring their ideas isn’t really necessary, you know?
