First off thanks for responding to my message. One reason I think it is victim blaming because it seems to regard these recent incidents in a vacuum, without considering the structural reasons why these things keep happening, and why people are feeling the
Certainly. I think the conversation is good.
I read
J. A. Micheline’s twitter feed & see what she’s saying about the Manara cover being part of a larger system of objectification of women. Although I would argue that if the Manara Spider-Woman cover was sold on a Danger girl or Lady Death cover there wouldn’t have been the outrage. It was that it was on something marketed toward female readers. - But I do see how Marvel’s lack of seeing why women wouldn’t like that is also a mess.
I do think the argument can also be made that someone’s actions against a real person is worth a lot more weight than how fictional characters are depicted. but that is hard to quantify and I do think it’s all worth discussing.
I also don’t think Sarah was saying “ people have got out of hand-( to quote J. A. Micheline )” as much as something like –this isn’t a productive way to handle this.
I talked to Sarah about this stuff last night so maybe I’m seeing it all through homie colored glasses. but like I said,
I think the conversation is good.
