Unity
In any field, you will find those who view their world as a competition, or those who view it as a community. Writers and authors are no exception. I have seen both sides, but it is the love and support of community I wish to adress.
When my mother passed away, I realized life was too short to live with unfulfilled dreams. I decided to tackle one of my dreams, and began writing. I wasn’t fooling myself into believing it would be easy, or that I would produce anything that would make prestigious lists. I just wanted to be able to look back and say, “I did it. Sink or swim, I did it.” I am so glad I did, and I hope my mother can see what the legacy of her love has inspired me to achieve.
The most rewarding and humbling part of this journey for me has been the people; most especially, the authors. I am an avid reader myself and have a long list of names that are literary heroes to me, but it is the ones that I have met along the way that have become my true heroes. Unity and community have never been more apparent to me. Did you know, the biggest support system and cheering section for a writer/author is the community of other writers/authors? They are some of the most generous, kind, compassionate, helpful, and supportive people you will have the pleasure of knowing. There are four particular women that have shown me the unity that can be found in sharing a dream. There is no bias or judgement, just encouragement and friendship. My gratitude towards these women is only surpassed by their grace. I often wonder if my mother sent me these angels – women that are so pure of spirit, they restore your faith in humanity. I am honored to be included in a community that houses such amazing talent, and even more amazing people.
In conclusion, I want to thank these women (you know who you are) for taking a fledgling, and helping her find her wings. It is a privilege to be in this community with you.
