“There’s a certain amount of
wish fulfillment in writing.
When I’m feeling unlovable,
I can take that one of two ways:
I can either write myself a world where I am
infinitely lovable and infinitely loved
and so, feel a little less alone in the world I’m
living in: the one where I am neither
as lovable or as unlovable as I pretend to be.
Or
I can write myself a place where I am just as disgusting,
unwanted, and unworthy as I think I am.
And with this, there’s something even more satisfying
because then I can pretend
to be right.”
