Colleen’s Movie Review

I always give spoilers so consider yourself warned. =)

Romance: Loved the romance between Scott (Paul Rudd) and Hope (Evangeline Lily). It was sweet, well constructed, and funny. I like her, a lot. Actually, I’ve liked Evangeline in everything she’s done. She’s amazing. Together they are awesome. Loved the kiss when he’s like, “What? Not sure how this all happened but I’m not sorry it did.” 

Special Effects: Really surprising and funny. Liked the whole concept of getting smaller to infinity and making big scary scenes out of stuff that’s not frightening at all if you’re like…human sized.

What I Liked: The sidekick friends were hilarious! Baskin Robbins always knows. Priceless. Had to get a mango smoothie after the movie. Paul Rudd is awesome. Pretty much everything is great.

What I’d Change: Nothing really except maybe the cameos from other Marvel characters. I’d like this one to stand on it’s own. It didn’t need any help.

The Tagline: 

This July, heroes don’t come any bigger.

Cute.

Hunky Hero: Paul Rudd to me is a bit like Chris Pratt. You don’t see him coming since he’s not your typical super hero, A lister kind of guy, but boy does he knock you over with just all around awesomeness. He’s a funny guy but also so hunky you just want to put your life at risk so he can come save you and then of course there’d be enthusiastic hugs and maybe a trip to Baskin Robbins after he did so. I’d pick him over Batman any day.

 

The Villain: I liked Darren Cross, the villain, as a bad guy much more before he put on the Yellow Jacket suit. He has a lot of charisma and charm and there’s a lot going on there beneath the surface. Those suits were killer. Think I have a thing for those powerful bald guys.

 

 

 

 

Best Line: 

Hank Pym: Scott, I need you to be the Ant-Man.

Scott Lang: One question… Is it too late to change the name?

Best Scene: Hmm, I’d say when his buddy is telling him stories and the people acted it out with his voice. Hilarious.

Recommended for YA Fans: Yes! Just go to this one people. Just go.

Compared to the Book: Not sure. Never read an Ant-Man comic.

A Kid’s Perspective


Josh’s Review: (Age 10)  I loved how the ants fought.  The ants were really cool, and could do lots cool stuff.  Those ants are really strong and powerful.


Sam’s Review (Age 12)   It was a fine movie. I got a little depressed each time an ant would die.  In fact my mom says she has to walk around all the ant piles in the front yard now so she won’t hurt them.  Who knew ants were so cool?

 

 

 

 

 

Cindy’s Review

 

Ant-Man… I knew nothing about this movie prior to movie day, and even then all I knew was the most basic information. I’m not a huge Marvel fan and I don’t watch much tv or see many movies. All that being said, I loved this movie! I thought the casting was excellent. The bad guys were very believably creepy & evil. The good guys were like-able. And the ex-con sidekicks, especially Michael Peña’s character, Luis, were hilarious. Paul Rudd played the lead as Ant-Man, a regular guy turned criminal to right an injustice. I was unconvinced that he should be quite so adept and knowledgeable about committing crimes since it seemed he had only committed one prior to going to prison. This incongruity didn’t bother me though. All in all, it was a very enjoyable movie, even if you aren’t familiar with the Marvel universe. I laughed all the way through it. Very nicely done.

 

 

Brad’s Review: 

Mr. Ant-Man, Bring Me a Dream

 

And Marvel’s Ant-Man definitely delivered! Truly, Ant-Man is perhaps my favorite flick of the summer! Fresh, original, funny, and cleverly scripted. Though I grew up a Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man fan, obsessively collecting Spidey’s comic books, I can definitely see myself rooting for Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man.

This was the first I was exposed to this unique super-hero. Ant-Man was intriguing because he didn’t possess the awesome powers of most other Marvel heroes, but he utilized the craftiness and ingenuity of the ant colony to achieve his goals.

The casting was well done. Paul Rudd was charismatic in a geeky sort of way; Michael Douglas was great to watch; Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll (the villain), and even Luis all played their roles extremely well. Best of all were the special effects and action scenes. The super-small ant’s perspective and how he shrinks and expands at will were fascinating. I loved the cat and mouse scenes between the Falcon and Ant-Man.

There were also some emotional moments. This wasn’t your typical saving the world from destruction story-line (though there was that if Stoll a.k.a The Wasp had his way), but a father (Rudd) trying to save his daughter and to do good by her, despite his flimsy past. The humor was right up my alley and I laughed-out-loud several times—unusual for me at most films.  As first films go in most franchise films, this was excellent. 

I give this film 8 out of 10 Hulk Smash Fists.
