My First Open Mic Night
Last night I took the plunge and participated in an Open Mic Night at my local pub. I was rather exceptionally terrified!
I read seven poems one of which was a new one I wrote about all the crazy stuff going on in the world at the moment. I’m not sure how well I did as I fluffed a few lines and was too emotional reading the last one and my hands were trembling throughout!
It was recorded using my phone with zoom, so the quality isn’t quite up to the standard.
I’m glad I did it and I am talking myself into doing it again in a fortnight’s time :) but will still be terrified!
These are the poems I read:
Forever Lost
The Song Of One Love
We Do Not Make Love
The End Of Summer
And Like A Poem
Love’s Willow
This Cold Draught (see below)

This Cold Draught
This cold draught
this chill coming from the distance
this goosebump of reality
this time of movement
this escape from the hills of fear
this jeopardy of life
this loss of humanity
this loss of the fire of compassion
this loss of freedom
this mountain of lost souls
This cold draught
of darkness
is called
Human
for are we not the destroyer of ourselves
of our planet
of our history?
and are we not the destroyer, of our smiles!
