Let Us Prey was the first short story that I ever had published in the now defunct Nevermore magazine. What makes it all the more memorable was that it was published on the same day that my oldest son Max was born. I didn’t get to see it in print (in digital form) until a few days later after I was home with my son.
I based this story off of an urban legend, something I like to do with my short fiction. The urban legend that it was based on is someone hiding in the back of your car who follows you to your destination and then murders the person either along the way or at the destination. A pretty gruesome subject matter, but I like gruesome in my fiction. I tried to put some twists along the way so that everything is not as it appears to be based on the main character’s(victim’s) point of view. Check the story out on my blog at
