An excellent point (one rarely finds excellent points in American public discourse these days). Those who believe this clerk is violating the law by refusing to issue marriage licenses to homosexual couples would similarly have to demand that one refusing to issue gun permits based on religious objections would have to “do their job”, even if opposed to guns.

And Quakers are not the only Christians who take Jesus’s teaching of absolute pacifism seriously. Mennonites, the Amish, Christadelphians, and Seventh Day Adventists are also among the “peace churches”, historically anyway…
