I don't really get why Trump and his ilk are so upset with immigrants in this country. I mean, do they really want wages to go up?
When I was in my 20s, all of the summer employees in Custer State Park were American college kids. In our boring little resort town, we looked forward to Spring and the new influx of college babes to pursue unsuccessfully. Today, all of the low-level employees in the Park are immigrants, many of whom are specifically imported from overseas by the Park concessionaires. They work cheaper and tend to be more reliable than American help, and that is good for the economy. It means more tax revenue which can be spent on those Americans who “can’t” work, on their welfare. Bernie says he wants the government to pay for everyone’s college and wouldn’t that be something? The only way that can be done, however, is if American business and industry are strong and profitable, so that the government can confiscate much of their earnings via taxes. Cheap immigrant labor can go along way in providing that.
Trump is a great sideshow and I love how he’s got the Republican Party shitting in its pants, but I don’t really think he’s thought about his position clearly from an economic standpoint. We have an ever growing class of people who need to be on welfare, especially if we’re going to pay for their higher education now, too. At the same time, there are millions of people in the world who want to come here to work. Let ‘em. America needs serfs!
I live in a town of about 80,000 now, and know of dozens and dozens of Americans who live off welfare. More power to 'em, I say. They are the new Nobility. I know of many immigrants here, too, mostly Hispanic and Eastern European, and they all have jobs. It’s really not rocket science to figure out who’s supporting who.
The simple fact is even in 2015 America, somebody is going to have to do the shit work and we can’t expect all these art and design and women’s studies majors to do any of it. They’re all going to have "careers”. Nor can we expect the people who are counting the days until their food stamps come through. They’re too busy insisting nothing is their own damn fault.
So the next time you see someone cleaning a public toilet, go up to them and thank them. If they speak back to you, you may have difficulty understanding them, due to their accent or lack of English proficiency.
Sure as shit, though, they understand you completely.
