Today the Department of Beguiling Book Art is learning about OruFun, the art of folding the pages of hardcover books to form 3D sculptures between the covers. Japanese artist Yuto Yamaguchi created OruFun and now shares his latest creations on Instagram. There’s no cutting or gluing involved. It’s just lots of careful creasing to create smooth curves and sharp lines that forming the faces and symbols of pop culture characters and symbols, band logos, and lots of other creative images.


One of Yamaguchi’s latest pieces is this impressive superhero symbol combo to celebrate the forthcoming release of Batman vs. Superman:

Yamaguchi also creates downloadable folding patterns for each of his paper sculptures so that anyone else can try their hand at making them too. The patterns are available via the .
