"There are bears in our pool!"

Many of you have probably seen this video already, for it quickly went viral. The first link is to the shorter version, showing a mama bear and her five cubs (yes, five!) cooling off in a NJ family’s backyard pool and playing with the toys. For bear lovers, the second link is to a much longer video of the bears’ visit, with sound effects from the watching human family, who had mixed feelings about their furry visitors. My sympathies are with the mother bear; imagine trying to ride herd on five mischievous babies…..yikes.

Wanda Oh, my goodness! I hit the floor from the cuteness of this video. Thank you! Thank you! (Going to view it again. Right. Now.).

Sharon The longer one is hilarious, Wanda, showing the cubs playing with the swing and other toys like human babies. The human mother seems to have thoroughly enjoyed the show, but her husband was worried about the pool and the children were upset at first, though the cuteness of the cubs did win them over. I'd never heard of a bear having five cubs; however does she manage?

Wanda Oh, Sharon ... I wonder if some of the cubs belonged to a friend of Mama Bear. Maybe she was babysitting and giving her girlfriend a break? Who knows? Maybe mother bears help each other out the same as we human mothers.

Sharon I'd like to think so, Wanda, but I've never heard of bears helping one another out like wolves and orcas and elephants and lions. They seem more solitary, like tigers or leopards. But I have this mental image of the mother bear counting as the babies kept popping out, unable to believe it. The sad thing is that it will be very challenging for her to keep five cubs safe.

Wanda Good Luck, Mama Bear and Babies. These videos together with the extended one on Youtube are the best thing I watched all weekend. Thank you again.

Rebecca I loved that video, but my heart was in my throat when Mama bear picked up that electrical pump thingy....Thank goodness she put it down. Thanks for the vid, Sharon.

Sharon Me, too, Rebecca. And I so wanted to hire a baby sitter for her! Imagine riding herd on five (!) cubs.
