Like an Author, Help an Author!

I was honored to help a fellow author, Andrew Peloquin, with his online launch of his book, The Last Bucelarii (Book 1): Blade of the Destroyer. He has a Facebook event that is ongoing through the weekend, and I was able to post a few comments and promotions on his behalf. That connection was sealed last weekend when I met Andy at the Local Author Meet & Greet at Mysterious Galaxy bookstore last weekend. E-mails were exchanged by the bookstore manager and many a writer. My getting to know Andy started with me Liking his Facebook page.

Generally, I'm not an avid fan of social media. I'd rather spend my valuable and sparse time working on my next book or writing project. But I have come to accept the value of connecting with others via Facebook or Twitter. Some of the more active Friends or Followers I have I actually look forward to conversing or writing with. A small handful have even bought my book. Which brings me to my ext point: success for writers does mean reaching beyond our small networks to broader ones, which can only be had through social media. Yes, that means generating Likes. And having retweets. Reviews. All of it. Whether we like it or not as writers, it's necessary. So why not have some fun with it?
