Windows 10

A friend sent me this and I wanted to share here, as I know many of you will be wondering if you should upgrade to Windows 10. You ought to be able to find the answers to all your questions here. It convinced me—I’ve reserved a copy, won over by the price (free) and the good reviews that Windows 10 has been earning.

Wanda Many, many thanks, Sharon, for this link. I am sittng on the fence and I cannot wait to read this article later this evening so I will be able to make an informed decision. Thank you!

Sharon I've been surprised, Wanda, by how many positive reviews I've read of it so far. We know that whenever Windows brings out a new edition, it is often a bumpy road. Remember Vista (shudder)? But I really like Windows 8.1, which corrected some of the glitches that were present in Windows 8.

Gretchen My husband works in IT and he's had an early version of Windows 10 for a while now. He really likes it. I haven't upgraded yet. One of the first questions my husband asks me every day when he gets home is "Did you upgrade yet?" From what I understand eventually it will get to a point where Windows users won't really have a choice in regards to operating systems. Microsoft wants all Windows users to be using 10.

Sharon Thanks for the feedback, Gretchen.

Janine We have had windows 10 for a couple of weeks and we love it. No issues at all.

Sharon That is good to hear, Janine.

message 7: by Ivana (new)

Ivana What I would really need to know if whether Windows 10, just like Windows 8, makes it impossible to use certain older versions of software. Specifically, Trados 2007: I'm a translator and I use Trados 2014, but some of the jobs I do require Trados 2007 to be used alongside 2010 because it's the specific requirement. But Windows 8 does not support Trados 2007 and cannot even read the bilingual documents from Trados 2007. (Windows 8 is also terrible and confusing in many other ways.)

So, unless I get assurances that Windows 10 has none of these problems, I'm most likely going to do the safe thing and stick to Windows 7, or reinstall Windows XP (still the best Windows version as far as I'm concerned). Or maybe I'll upgrade my other laptop (which came from the shop with Windows 8 installed) to Windows 10, because it surely can't be worse than Windows 8.

Sharon I would do the same in your position, Ivana. I have not heard anything about whether Windows 10 can support older software like Trados. Always better to err on the side of caution.
Windows 8.1 is a big improvement over Windows 8, which had lots of problems. I liked XP, too.
