What Harder; Writing or Rewriting?

Okay, everyone knows that the writing process isn’t easy. That much is a fact. But no one ever told me how hard REWRITING can be.
Let me tell you all a little story.
As most of you whom follow my blog know, I am currently and diligently working on the upcoming release of “Demoness Enchanted” the 2nd book in my series.
But you know what?
*Side Note: I have no idea why I keep starting my sentence with conjunctions today. But, oh well. LOL* :D :P
I am having a field day—and not in a good way—with rewrites.
Yes, rewrites. Not to be confused with edits.
Editing is the process of polishing up and perfecting what is already completed. Rewrites, is saying to yourself “Rose, WHAT IN GOD’S NAME WERE YOU THINKINGS!?”
… and then deleting it and starting over.
It’s funny because while I am still completely in love with the premise of the story and believe that it’s a unique spin on the average New Adult Paranormal Romance, I also feel like I must have been drunk the entire time I was writing it.
Of course, “Demoness Enchanted” was among one of my first stories—written when I was a newbie at all of this. I mean, I did have to do a significant amount of rewriting with “If Death Should Love Me” also. However, this one differs in that I am not only changing elements of the story for coherence, but I’m also altering the characters voices. Which is hard because they are both young. I mean how different can you actually make two teenagers sound, really? LOL
Most of the story is written in first person, some parts are written in third person, but it works well.
However, here is the conundrum:
Since I am rewriting as opposed to editing, this means that once I’m done with the rewrites, my story will have reverted back to “rough draft” form, which translates into having to do heavy editing as well. So, it’s not just going through it once for a heavy set of edits, and then a couple of Alpha and Beta reads. It’s literally having to do everything twice, UNTIL the point of Alpha and Beta reads.
So, as it stands I’m currently like …

Just trying to fix it all.
