A Hardening
Nehemiah 9:16 But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments,
There are people who believe that signs and wonders will draw people to truth, but we see from the experience of the children of Israel that this is not often the case. Pride and hardening of the heart seemed to be the response of the children of Israel to all the great miracles, causing God to make them wander for 40years until an entire generation wasted. We learn from this that the opportunity for change can be wasted when we begin to detect a pride and hardening of the heart. Note that the majority built a consensus to disbelieve God and murmur against Him … and rebel against His commandments.
Many do not understand how easy it is for the majority to be rebellious and hardened in error even after God has given so many clear miracles and signs. There are many sons of Korah, many Miriams and weak priests that will bow to the people and allow satan to bait them into a mesmeric self-deception until it is too late. The Calebs and Joshuas must stand strong … the Daniels must be daring … the remnant must remain defiant in their firm decision to obey God even when this has become less fashionable.
Leadership must be careful not to echo the mob perspective which often drags the journey down a path in which God is forced to judge arrogance and unbelief. May we not be like those who in their pride, hardened their hearts against doing that which would have pleased God. May none reading this devotional end up like Judas … may God have mercy and send His brokenness to help our pride.

As Nehemiah’s wall was built, so will we see a reconstruction in all that may appear in distress and in waste. Nehemiah trusted and feared God, putting his faith in the Almighty whose strength is limitless to exceed all our expectations.
