Between Us & The Moon Playlist

Ah, 1995. The year of “if the glove don’t fit, you must acquit!”

The year the music industry lost Jerry Garcia and Latina superstar, Selena. It was also the year some of the following songs were on Billboard’s Top 20:

“Take A Bow” – Madonna, “Creep” – TLC, and some other gems like “Boombastic” by Shaggy. It’s also the year I was 15, Bean’s age, in Between Us & The Moon. In order to access some of the emotional places I needed to go when writing the book, I listened to hours upon hours of 90’s music and more.

As many writers do, I made a MOON playlist. Not all of the songs on this list are from the 90s, but these are the top songs I listened to while writing the book. I hope you like it and that they feel like Between Us & The Moon to you!

1. “When Your Mind’s Made Up” – Glen Hansard and & Markéta Irglová

2. “Walk On The Ocean” – Toad The Wet Sprocket

3.  “Summertime”  – Janis Joplin

4. “I Shall Believe” – Sheryl Crow

*Warning! This song will break your heart.

5. “Feel Us Shaking” – The Samples (probably one of the most influential songs in my teen years!)

6. “Moonlight Mile – Rolling Stones

7. “La Cienaga Just Smiled” – Ryan Adams

8. “If 6 Was 9″ – Jimi Hendrix

* I imagined this song playing when Bean and Andrew walk into Curtis’ party for the first time).*

9. “I’m On Fire” – Bruce Springsteen

10. “I’ll Be Your Lover Too” –  Van Morrison

(I imagined this THE night after Nancy & Scarlett’s going away party… if you know what I mean)

11. “Aurora” – Foo Fighters

12. “Break On Through (To The Other Side)” – The Doors

*For reasons too obvious to explain. Seriously, LOOK how hot this man is!!* For some reason it won’t embed into the blog but really, it’s worth it just for  0:19

13. “Fields Of Gold” – Sting

14. “All I Want Is You” – U2

15. “Bleed To Love Her” – Fleetwood Mac
This is the song I imagined that Bean, Claudia, and Ettie heard on the radio in the last scene of the book:

Pretty dismal, eh?

I've long held the belief that a band is entirely worthless if they can't master the simple 4/4 beat of rock 'n' roll. It's seemingly so simple, usually scoffed at by musicians and prog fans, but here's the thing: most of the people scoffing can't do it. Oh, they can play a 4/4, but they can't grab it by the scruff of the neck and make it swing.

Living in the past. Hold all calls...
