A long way from home

Every year in August I try to escape from Melbourne winter and go somewhere warm. Last year we went to 3700 kilometres away to Darwin. You can’t get much further away.
I was poking around in a plant nursery just down the road from our caravan park when I discovered Tah Dah !!!!

– A Melbourne train carriage!! (for those gunzels among you it was Hitachi carriage no. 1971T)

Justjeanette Hey, our trains are magnificent.. or at least they used to be when they were red rattlers and the old blues... I think I just aged myself. Am I the only one who misses opening the doors and hanging out as the train left town?

Jane Routley Yes I miss it too. And I loved the decor of the Red rattlers.
Now we are too Occ Health and Safety to allow school kids to hang out the doors. (sigh) probably for the best.

Maybe... but sometimes I wonder if our drive to be so health and safety focused that we've created a society that doesn't get to learn the "if it's hot it might burn you" from a small, hot cup instead of waiting till we put our hand in a blast furnace to work out our parents were right when they told us that might hurt. Funny, how as a species we are supposedly able to learn not only from our own mistakes but those of others yet we constantly fail at it...

What's the phrase... Common sense isn't so common any more.

Ps. Thanks for the friend add... I love being able to thank authors who give me so much pleasure reading properly.
Cheers
Jeanette
