What Does Cameron Scott Look Like?
Since I'm currently in the midst of a blogger tour for Her Confessional: Our Little Secret, I'm seeing a lot of speculation over the physical inspiration and fan dream casts for Cameron. One name that keeps popping up over and over again is Charlie Hunnam. I feel almost bad telling all of you Charlie lovers that the extent of my knowledge about him stems solely from gifs my friends post on their Facebook pages (most of which ... ahem ... are *not* safe for work) so I don't have a lot of inspiration to draw from. I hear he's a fine actor and that he did amazing things with his role on Sons of Anarchy, but because I'm so unfamiliar with his work, there's no way he could have been the inspiration for Cameron.
Not that he's not hot. He is. I mean. Yeah.
And while, based on this photograph alone, I can totally see him playing the role that Cameron was cast in, there's something a little more rough around the edges about him that prevents him from being Cameron ... for me. (Also, isn't he British?)
The thing about Cameron is that while he's hot, he's also a midwest, corn fed boy-next-door type. Physical stature aside, he is a little ... softer around the edges than I perceive Charlie Hunnam to be.
There are a ton of other actor names that have popped up and in many cases I can get behind the interpretation. Other times I have to admit to really not seeing it. Let's take a look at the contenders, shall we?
Liam Hemsworth
I feel like he's way too young to represent a man in his mid-30s who has a long career of mediocrity in his past. While there's no denying that the younger Hemsworth brother is certainly good looking, for me he's missing that extra gravitas that shows in someone's face when they've lived awhile.
Chris Hemsworth
Another fine specimen of a man, but like Hunnam I feel there's something a bit ... rough ... about him. Maybe it stems from the fact that the role I'm most familiar with is Thor and Cameron just isn't Thor. Thor is ... well, more. If you're looking to dream cast Chris Hemsworth, you should read Amy Stearman's Altered book because this is exactly who I pictured for the hero when reading that one. (Although I can almost see him as Cameron in this photo.)
Chris Pine
Oooh, this is a good one. Great job readers. I'd totally endorse this guy as Cameron. Blonde hair, blue eyes, chiseled jaw. Yup, I'm buying it.
Chris Evans
I seriously can never remember this guy's name. To me he's just Captain America and the unfortunate thing about that is until I started watching Agent Carter, I didn't really like Cap. It took me a long, long while to warm up to him and while I like the character now, that first impression taints how I view this actor. That said, I'll give it to you dream casters on the physical characteristics. It's spot on.
Alexander Skarsgard
As much as I love the way this man looks, he's far too European to be Cameron from Ohio, with facial features that more long and angular than I picture Cameron in my head. His body though? Spot on. Definitely.
Armie Hammer
I mean ... I see why some might think so. Tall? Check. Blonde? Check. Blue eyes? Check. But ... somehow no? Maybe because he looks almost too sweet. I also think his teeth throw me off. No way would this guy be cast as Xander in The Ties That Bind.
I've written about this before, but when I first started writing Her Confessional, the physical ideal I had in my mind for how Cameron looked was Sam Heughan. But lately? Well, let's just say that I am *so* not loving what they're doing to him to play Jamie in season two of Outlander and the more I see of him the less I see Cameron in him. It's a damn tragedy what's going on with that hair and some of the styling he's going out in public with.
Uh oh. I started this post to explain who I view as Cameron and all that's happened is that I've gone through basically every hot blonde male actor and now I'm second-guessing myself. I blame Starz because there is no way I should be looking at these other men and thinking that Sam Heughan pales in comparison.
