What's in a Newsletter?
Newsletter can be two-fold for anyone. Some come too often, while others never enough. They also need to contain information that the reader will find interesting.
Newsletters can be the life-blood for any business, especially an author. When I first started writing, I had more and more readers asking where my newsletter was so they could sign up for it. I told them to give me a week and I would have one.
For me, there was a fine line between sending out too many emails and not enough. I made the decision to send out a monthly newsletter because I know what my life is like (did I mention I was working a full-time 40+ hour a week job and teaching at the local State College as well?). I was busy and the last thing I wanted or needed were more emails or Spam, so I decided once a month was perfect to give out the information I wanted to share without overwhelming my readers. I do send out a notice for releases, but that was because the readers asked me to.
My next thought when I began writing a newsletter was what should I put in it. I knew I wanted to share with readers what I was doing and the books that I had completed, but I also wanted more so I also included an Author's Spotlight where I would showcase other Authors. I was terrified! LOL. Yes, terrified. Why? Because I didn't know any other authors. I was new to this and had never even talked to another author in my life. Fortunately, the few I reached out to were more than welling to be my guest. Since then, I have met many more authors, some in person, some online, and have had the privilege to share their information with my readers just as my readers have shared other authors' books with me.
Recently, I've been trying to give back to my readers by writing and publishing exclusive stories found only through my newsletter. I wrote The Dragon's Treasure based on a flashfiction story I had written a few years ago. Of course, as I began writing, the characters and story took on a life of their own. The next story, The Sea King's Lady, sealed the Seven Kingdoms series which are all interwoven, and of course, the stories are getting longer and longer. I just completed A Witch's Touch, which be out in the August Newsletter. I'm very excited about the stories and hope that readers will enjoy them as much as I do.
So, what's in a newsletter? A little of everything. A little about me, a little about my books, a new story, and an introduction to a new author you might not know about. If there is something you would like to see in the newsletter, just let me know. I'll be happy to add it. So, if you haven't sign up yet and would like to, go to http://sesmithfl.com and sign up. I look forward sharing more of my wonderful worlds with you.
