Can we turn our cities into carbon sinks by rebuilding them with wood?

This is an interesting question. On the one hand, if New York were built largely of wood rather than of steel and concrete, it would permanently sequester as much as half a trillion metric tons of carbon. However, the buts one suspects would fill an encyclopedia starting with, "But were would we get all that wood?" For the moment, the idea should symbolize the magnitude of the undertakings that will be needed in the near future in order to pass through the bottleneck of the 21st century.
