Song on Gautama Buddha

Note: This is translation of film song which was penned by the great Malaylam poet, O.N.V Kurup and tuned by legendary Devarajan master in the raga Bhowli and sung by the outstanding singer of our country K.J.Yesudas, in the film Karuna. the best lesser word to express about this song will be “fablous” The film was about the great master Sri.Buddha. its very hard to translate those beautiful hymns wrote in praise of gautma buddha from Malayalam language to English, so i dont think my translation is apt, but it clearly conveys the essence of those hymns.

“Buddham sharanam gacchami,

Dharmam sharanam gacchami

Sangam sharanam gacchami”

The vibrant light of mercy,

The fabulous flame of compassion,

Awakened from kapila vasthu.

The light that contain

All-pervading, truth & serene

has casted away the veil of ignorance,

It shines eternally &

Provides liberation.

The Eternal flower blossomed from

the self-excruciating pain of darkness,

It’s the dawn of the self-awareness

of the eternal, noble, cultural soil.
