Some of you might have been confronted by the people trying to sell the little bags of makeup on the streets of New York. Generally speaking, I say no to anyone who approaches me, even before they tell me what they want.
This time, the person caught me at work. I wasn’t busy, so I listened. “This makeup is nice, blah blah blah,” and then I realized I hadn’t bought new makeup in quite a while and might need replacements. The colors she was showing me were nice. So okay. $20. Not a terrible price.
I was excited at first. I used the new makeup the next morning. First of all, the teeny tiny brushes lost their bristles all over my face. So they went in the trash and I used my old brushes. The eyeshadow went on okay. The lipgloss was also okay (if a little sticky).
Here’s the thing: the bronzer that came with the bag has a built in brush, which also loses bristles, and it’s not so much bronze as it is copper glitter. And there is no gradual application. It either doesn’t come out at all, or you mash the bristles against your skin and turn it bright orange.
Also, the mascara is super flaky. Usually when I open brand new mascara, it stays put all day, smooth as anything. This was like a year old tube. Made me scared I might get an eye infection.
When the woman sold me the makeup, she said if for any reason the product was unsatisfactory, I could go on the website and get a refund by just typing in the code on the bottom of the bag. Sounded good, but when I decided I would like my money back, there was no such place on the website to type in the code. I never got a response when I contacted customer service, either.
Do yourself a favor, you guys: say no when a stranger approaches you on the street. Save your $20 for something you hand-pick at Sephora instead.
