With Grant Morrison becoming the editor-in-chief of Heavy Metal, what do you think of it as a competitor to Island?

I think it’s cool timing the orders for Island have been nice and I’m sure a Heavy Morrison will bring in a ton of comic shop interest. I hope it’s great, I like the idea of the bar being raised for comic magazines.

I think it’s interesting in contrast to Island with Morrison being a guy who tends to only (mostly?) collaborate on comics, where in Island the vast majority of the comics are done by a single creator-drawing, writing, lettering and coloring everythang.

I’m interested to see how he’ll shake the metal bikini rep that HM has gotten in recent decades. Also with Morrison’s work being seen as part of the UK scene, It would have been cool to see him take on something like Deadline or 2000ad as opposed to HM with it’s

Les Humanoïdes Associés association with French comics.

I wonder if he’ll bring in a regular crew of creators who will be known through it or if his HM will just be a Who’s who of western well known comics guys.

There’s something odd about them keeping the old logo. (it is an excellent logo) and then mixing it with a Brian Ewing –rock poster image. I guess that’s them saying– here is the tradition you loveee and the look of recent rock music

Here’s Ewing doing the same kind of thing for a Pearl jum hullabaloo.

If anything the cover makes me feel like less of a stroob for having my own face all over island.

So yeah, this looks to be an interesting time in comics.
