The Lions Mane Jellyfish is the largest jellyfish in the world. They have been swimming in arctic waters since before dinosaurs (over 650 million years ago) and are among some of the oldest surviving species in the world.
Absolutely wow.
I’m going to cry
that is absolutely horrifying.
HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT THING!
Why am I finding out about this now??
“Foolish creature of the flesh. I am ancient. I am forever. I have seen Empires rise and fall. I have seen entire species wither to cinders. I have seen the depths and the cold and the abyss that lay beyond. You are no more a nuisance to me than plankton. You are so insignificant, and I am so exquisitely eternal that I am the closest thing you will have to a God.”
-What I imagine the jellyfish would say to a human

I am so, so horrified by these. I don’t know why I am sharing this incredibly off-topic thing on here, other than that I am hoping someone else shares my COMPLETE HORROR AHHHHH. I usually think jellyfish are beautiful but AGGGH.
I think these are beautiful and wondrous and alien, but I can see why someone would find them disturbing.
Imagine if these were birds though. :D :D :D
^ they’d probably be carnivorous.
