WTF is a Blog Launch??

I don’t know how long ago this “blog launch” thing started, but I just recently started noticing it. I just don’t get it.

So basically someone announces to the world that their blog will be ‘launching’ by a certain date. Ok…so what?

What do you expect me to do, as a potential reader, if you have nothing up yet; no content, no info, nothing? What am I supposed to do with that void you created in cyberspace?
