Fish are Jumpin’ – June 7 – Week Two of Summer
I have changed the image for this series of summertime posts for the coming week. I found it on Pinterest years ago. As a gardener, it makes my heart smile. In the Chicago area we had a friend who was an Episcopal priest. He was known to use the birdbath in the church yard for baptisms. Wonderful!
Let’s visualize the summer Sunday this little girl is having. Her mother is nearby with trouser knees black and wet, where she kneels, weeding. There is a hum of bees in the nearby catmint, the tiny blue flowers throughout the garden border. The church bells ring ten o’clock, the service beginning. The child’s mother looks up, crossing herself, acknowledging the moment. Glancing at the little girl, she smiles. The child won’t stay put for much longer, but the view from the birdbath is a benediction Mom doubts the parishioners who have gathered in church will know.
This first Sunday in June, we can all climb into a metaphorical birdbath, shoes off, hands behind our heads, looking into the trees above us. There is birdsong, and a slight breeze, and a blessing waiting to be claimed. Enjoy!
