Scene Set –  Peyton meets the Princess and goes on his date.



He pushed the limo door open, stepped out, inhaled a deep breath, and walked to the front entrance. He reached for the doorbell, but the door swung opened. "Uncle Petty!" Three feet of blonde energy dressed in pale pink with some fluffy thing bouncing at her waist charged out of the house and flung herself at him."Princess!" He scooped her up and spun her around."I'm a ballernina.""Don't I get a kiss hello?"She planted a wet kiss on his cheek then shrieked, "Ballernina. A princess ballernina.""Ballerina, dear. Ball-er-ina. Hello, Peyton. Just in time." Lanna, the female version of Peyton stepped out of the house and waggled her keys. "You ready to do this? A night filled with little dancers and horribly proud parents.""Family first." He planted his four-year-old niece on his hip and followed her mother to her dark blue Lexus SUV."Uncle Petty?" She tugged his ear. "Are you coming to watch me dance?"He nodded and cringed as she squealed in delight in that high note that only little girls can reach. He glanced around. "Where's Kalvin?""Dubai. Business." Lanna lifted a finger to stop his protest. "Yes, he's away and you're here, and you are going to enjoy this.""Wow. You sound more like Mom every day." He deposited his niece in her car seat, secured her seatbelt, climbed into the front passenger side, and clicked his restraint shut. "This is nice. When did you get it?""Last week. I know it's stupid big, but I feel safer with her." His sister turned out of her driveway.Peyton mumbled to his passenger window. "And off to an exciting evening at some ballet recital thing.""I heard that." Lanna tossed a sideways glare and focused on driving to the recital.The theater was packed with parents. Each had cellphones or cameras ready to record every precious moment of their offspring's performance. Some performers sat shrieking in fear, clinging to their angry parents. An hour into the performance, Peyton was losing the battle with sleep."And now, Miss Martindale's three and four year old beginner ballet class." The announcer's voice seemed far in the distance.A sharp elbow in the ribs brought him back to the moment. "Wake up. Your only niece is about to have her debut performance."Peyton straightened and focused on the nine little girls in pale pink leotards and body suits with that pink fluffy thing around their waists. They spun and posed and tripped and smashed into each other. The one on the furthest end seem to be crying. Peyton stifled a snicker."Hush!" his sister hissed.He leaned closer. "Good thing Princess is on the far right, because I think the one on the left just peed.""Oh good Lord!" Lanna shook her head.Fighting back a laugh, Peyton said, "I do love the arts you know. They're so classy."Lanna slapped his arm. "Shut up, you. Go back to sleep."Peyton leaned back in his chair and let his mind wander back to this afternoon's problem. How to deal with the stubborn Fuchsia Quinn? If he was lucky, he could fly to where she lived and charm her into moving. The more he tried to force that idea out of his head, the more the idea rooted itself. How hard could it be to charm an annoying, stubborn bull headed crazy person?When the recital ended and the celebratory ice cream sundaes were eaten, Peyton kissed his niece and sister good night and called Adele to drive him to his apartment.At ten the next morning he sat in his office, staring at an empty coffee cup when he conceded that he had to go to East Millburg. He asked his executive assistant to call the limo and book him a plane ticket and a hotel room. He grabbed what he needed from his office, raced home, packed, and rode to the airport.
