Game of Thrones--one death too many?

Here is James Hibberd’s comments on Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones. As usual, spoilers abound, so do not read any farther if you have not yet seen it. I don’t want to commit any spoilers myself, but I am guessing I am not the only one who gave some serious consideration to bailing after one scene in particular. I will probably hang in to the bitter end because of Tyrion and Danni and her dragons, but the thought definitely crossed my mind. While reading the books, I remember thinking that Joffrey had to be the worst character in the entire series, and then we were introduced to Ramsay Snow. Well, I consider Sunday’s scene to be even worse than what happened at the Red Wedding, which probably says it all. Anyway, here is the link; Hibberd is always well worth reading and does have some interesting insights about the last episode.

Rebecca What I didn't like was how the producers took this incident out of context and rushed it through.....I think what I am tired of is the bad writing and the fact that Dan n Dave rely too much on shocking the audience....This particular scene didn't shock the audience it horrified them, I know it did me.

As for Ramsay I am also tired of this character and his loathsome father....just how long are they going to drag this out? I also find it rather odd that they give this psychopath oodles of screen time and gave the Stannis scenes almost no time.....

As far as I am concerned in the TV version the Battle for Winterfell has been ruined.....just as well I like the books better:D

Sharon In fairness, though, Rebecca, GRRM told the HBO writers that he planned to have Shireen burned at the stake in the book, too, presumably the one he is currently working on. But horror is more traumatizing when it occurs on-screen; when we are reading a book, we can control our imaginations. It was like Prince Oberyn's death; I found that harder to watch than to read about, although HBO did make his death even more gruesome than GRRM. I have no idea whatsoever what GRRM plans for the Boltons; I know what I'd do with them if he asked me to "guest-write" a few scenes for him.:-)

I understand what you mean Sharon and the fate of little Shireen is foreshadowed in the book, so I knew she was going to die, but I'm sure when it comes to the book it will be for a different reason.

I don't understand why they had Stannis stay so long at the Wall. He was there at the end of season 4 and he didn't leave Castle Black until episode 5.....So much could have been done to show WHY he had to take this drastic step....Instead we have an episode where Ramsay does a hit and run and burns a few tents and Stannis drops his bundle and burns his daughter alive....I don't want shock and awe I want a really good script that makes sense and is not illogical....For instance Davos risked his life to save Gendry a lad he didn't even know but he does nothing to save Shireen.....We have had to endure a really boring foray into Dorne and those silly sandsnakes...Why didn't Dan n Dave spend more time on the Battle for Winterfell and SHOW the soldiers starving and in almost open rebellion.....It is the same with the Sansa storyline totally illogical, the girl would not marry into the family that murdered her own, and she did this without a plan B...it makes no sense.

I really DO wish you could write for GOT...I think you'd have me and the rest of the audience on the edge of our seats and your script would make SENSE....ER am I allowed to share a rumour about episode 10 on this page? I think it is rather awesome IF it is true?

Sharon WE'd better wait till after the finale airs to discuss it since so many people have not read the books. I am assuming they will go for the shock ending of the last book and that will cause a major meltdown in half the viewers!
I don't like the sandsnakes much either. :-) But Dorne's ruler (can't remember his name) seems to be much wiser than the other kings and kingmakers and would-be kings. Maybe he should be the one sitting on the Iron Throne? But life in Dorne looks a lot more comfortable than in Westeros and there are those pesky White Walkers.

Rebecca OK I will keep mum;)....Poor Doran got almost zero air time and the small scenes we have of him I have enjoyed---I would have loved his grass/viper speech but oh well.....and yes it will be interesting to watch the REAL war to come and for those who thought them 'snarks and grumpkins' including Tyrion!....It will also be interesting to see Cersie receive her comeuppance and no I shall feel no sympathy for her....Tell me can you DONATE your writing skills for seasons 6 & 7 LOL.....one can wish...
