A Tiny Peek at My Work in Progress

Author Kim Rendfeld invited me and some other authors to share seven lines from the seventh page of our works in progress. My current WIP is entitled The Driver’s Wife and is a spin-off novel from my Jack Mallory trilogy, taking place about a year after The Fortune.

But before you read my seven lines, SPOILER ALERT!! for those who haven’t yet read The Alliance and The Fortune.

Helen’s eager blue gaze reached aboard the Nymph as it gently arrived at the dock. When she caught sight of Ketch, her expression opened and she cried, “Ahoy, Mr. Ketch!” and grinned, waving as if he had been gone a year. Never in Ketch’s adult life had anyone but Helen showed joy at seeing him. He returned the wave with a brief, self-conscious smile. He did not deserve the child’s love, so it was often painful to accept her affections, especially in front of those who knew it was he who had killed her father.
