A Blog of Three Parts

Okay folks, we’re a little more than halfway through our summer fundraiser, and I’m pleasantly surprised at how well things have been going.

Last year we raised 25,000 dollars in the first day. This year, we raised that in under six hours.

As I write this, we stand at 112,000 dollars, and I’m hoping we have a strong finish in the next four days. I’d *really* like to beat last year’s total of $206K.

Today I’ve got three things to show you….

Show off a few new items we’ve added. Bring a few th...

LOL that is EXACTLY what I was thinking... I just wasn't going to post it :P
I just re-read both The Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear... and the wait again is driving me crazy.

MightySSStrawberry Such an awesome cause! I wish I could buy a bunch more of all that cool stuff! As for Doors of Stone...I'm dying for it, too! I recently finished reading The Name of the Wind again, too. But I'll wait as long as I have to for Day 3 because I know it'll be epic!

Rob the dude has already announced it's not coming out this year. Any announcement now would be "in the future I will make another announcement."

Ovie Arienmughare it's such a shame...all we want is the book. If Patrick Rothfuss needs to raise a specific amount for his projects, I'm sure we - the fans - will be more than willing to make that happen SO LONG as he delivers the series in a very timely fashion.

Simon Ellis As a fan of mister rothfuss books this, 'who cares about anything else but book 3' attitude is appalling. Patrick rothfuss is a great author, but if doors of stone came out tomorrow and was the best book in history, that accomplishment would pale in comparison to what he has done with world builders. One entertains us, but the other literally saves lives.

Rob And seriously, let's even set aside the "Rothfuss is dedicating his time and money to make the world a much better place" stuff for the moment. All we want is book 3? That's not just selfish and entitled, it's insane. If the man did nothing but work on book 3 we would never have gotten the brilliant and delightful oddity that is the slow regard of silent things. That book, entirely unlike anything else in the field, as well one of the most perfectly crafted books in ANY genre to be produced in the past decade, just would not exist.

As a fan of Rothfuss, what I want is for the man to do whatever the hell he wants, because whatever he produces, even if it's something I never asked for, provides me with entertainment and joy beyond almost any other living author

Ovie Arienmughare Against my....very selfish and inconsiderate nature, I find myself agreeing that you both are right: in my frustration, I wasn't bothered enough to find out anything about the charity. I was wrong; improving lives is the most important activity a person can partake. I have learned a bit about the charity and in appreciating their efforts, I made a modest donation.

I hope this does not take away from my apology and acknowledgment of my callous comment, but I feel the need to say this: I would like to believe that fans of scifi/fantasy authors would jump at the opportunity to team up with their favorite authors and work on humanitarian projects. It is a mutually beneficial partnership from which the author gains some free time and the fans bond with their authors through their charitable works under his/her supervision/request. I know I will be ecstatic if I got to help Brandon Sanderson or Joe Abercrombie with some charity work. That being said, we all bring a unique perspective to the table and perhaps only PR could have done some of things that has gotten done by Worldbuilders.
I guess some of my frustration came from feeling PR was "out there," doing stuff "without us (the fans)" for "God-knows-how-long" with no end (and no book 3/4/...) in sight. I applaud his works (humanitarian and literary) but I hope that he can improve his current utilization of his fanbase for more productivity.

Dewald Lol note how this is a blog of three "parts", tell me is there really 3de part or does it also leave you hanging after part 2 while another hundred blogs come out?

just saying..

Alexandria While I understand the comments on the concept of "only caring about Doors of Stone", I'd like to point out that some of us meant it in a joking way, nor do I except Rothfuss to work on it 24/7 :)

But I agree, perhaps it was in bad taste, because World Builders is indeed amazing... Heifer International is actually my favorite charity. Three cheers to you Patrick, not many can do what you've done!
